EMS Clubs

Running Club
In its 8th year of existence, the 8th grade running club meets from
March to June. Participants seek to develop their athletic ability
through proper warm-up and stretching routines, as well as through
endurance, strength, and speed-related activities. Participation
in community running events is encouraged while the club meets.

Student Government Association
SGA is an organization which allows students at the middle school
level to taste the idea of student government. Students organize
events and activities which increase participation in the school
and help it to take part in the community. This year the students
have organized a dance and a Spirit Week. The SGA meets twice monthly,
on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Elections are held in the Fall
for the year with the president being elected from the eighth grade
while the other grades are represented in the other offices, and
as Team Reps and Homeroom Reps. The current coordinator is Ms.
Weinberg, one of our Guidance Counselors.

Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is an extra-curricular musical ensemble. Currently
we meet after school, once-a-week, to prepare for various public
performances. This is an audition-based group made up of students
in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The group performs at some school
functions, as well as outside events, such as jazz festivals, benifit
dinners, etc. Auditions are held in late November and the group
continues to rehearse and perform through the school year. Anyone
interested in auditioning for the ensemble should contact the Instrumental
Music Director, Mr. D'Orazio.

Book Club
The Book Club meets after school on the second and fourth Tuesday
of each month. Any student who is interested in, and enjoys reading,
is encouraged to join. New members are accepted througout the year.
Anyone interested in joining the Book Club should contact Ms.
Walters in the Media Center.

Advance Chorus
This year East Middle will have an advanced choir that meets every
Wednesday from 2:25-3:15 right after school. This small ensemble
provides an opportunity to sing with a smaller group, perform more
advance music, and provide an extra opportunity to join both Orchestra/Band
and Chorus. This chorus is an auditioned chorus; auditions will
be held after school in September and January. Those who are already
in advanced chorus need not audition again. Audition sign-up sheets
will be on the bulletin board outside of Mr. Meerdters room,
and permission slips will be in the cafeteria or in Mr. Meerdters
room. You need only to sign up for one 5-minute audition time slot
and then you may leave after you have auditioned. Contact Mr.

Drama Club
The Drama Club is an organization that offers theater
opportunities and stage experience to students in grades 6, 7, and
8. Students will practice voice projection, body movement, basic
acting skills, and public speaking skills. Those who elect to participate
can audition for speaking roles in our school productions or work
in the stage crew to create and organize scenery and props. Meeting
are held every Tuesday in Mr. Moore's room and in the gymnasium,
and run from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. If you would like any further information,

S.H.O.U.T
S.H.O.U.T stands for Students Helping Others Understand Themselves.
S.H.O.U.T promotes a drug, alcohol, and tobacco free lifestyle.
Everyone is invited to join. Each year we promote things like Red
Ribbon Week and National Smoke Out Day. We also hand out ribbons
for MADD prior to the winter break to remind folks not to drink
and drive. The group usually meets every other month. We have fun
while also promoting a positive lifestyle. Please Contact Mrs.

Charcter Education Committee
The East Middle Character Education Committee is made up of students
and faculty. The committee meets after school one to two times a
month until 3:30 PM. Our Character Education Committee plans and
implements a monthly character challenge that reflects the character
trait of the month. The committee also plans the end of the year
Character Education Picnic. The picnic includes every student who
was recognized during the school year for demonstrating a positive
character trait.If you are interested in joining our Character Education

Yearbook Club
Is a group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who volunteer to
help create the annual EMS Yearbook. Students help to take pictures
at school and community events, and then organize them into yearbook
pages. They help to create the layout of the yearbook, create collages,
and develop the overall theme. It is their time to shine and help
make memories of EMS last a lifetime. The group meets about every
other week starting in October and finishing up in February or March
depending on deadlines. Please contact Ms.

Video Crew
The Video Crew meets after school on the First and Third Tuesday
of each month. Any students who have an interest in video production
(taping through editing) should contact Ms.
Walters for more information.

Shakespeare Club
The Shakespeare Club is an organization specifically designed
to prepare for the spring Shakespeare Festivals. Students will work
to prepare scripts, create and organize interactive activities for
our elementary visitors, prepare workshops, and help with the overall
production of the plays. Shakespeare Club members will meet every
Thursday, beginning the fourth week of November. Meeting times run
from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. and will be held in Mrs. Livermore's room.
