Special points of interest:
· All students will be starting the year off by making artwork for an art fundraiser called Art to Remember (look for these forms to come home soon!)
· All fifth grade students will have a chance to complete a cover for the school yearbook. Teachers and staff members will vote on the winning cover.

· Create a line drawing, a line collage, and a line picture using paper mache.
· Draw basic shapes, create a city collage out of shapes, and create a shape alligator.
· Create a book about the colors of the rainbow and a handprint color wheel.
· Make texture monsters, ice cream prints, and texture leaf bowls.
· Learn about value using tissue paper.
· Learn about form with clay.

· Study line and texture to create a cave painting and learn about symbols and clay when creating cylinder seals in the Prehistoric unit.
· Learn about portraits while creating an Egyptian portrait and learn about form when creating a mummy in the Egyptian unit.
· Learn about color and pattern while in the African art unit. They will start by creating a paper weaving and then create their own looms to make a fabric weaving.

· Learn about contrast and myths by creating a Greek paper vase, and learn about form when they turn their vase into a pinch pot. Learn about complimentary colors while completing a Greek mosaic and learn about symmetry when completing a Greek mask.
· Look at Chinese art and line to create Sumi-E paintings.
· Learn about Australian Aboriginal art and symbols to create a dot painting.

· Learn about the art of Edgar Degas and create a pastel movement piece.
· Learn about the art of Claude Monet, to create a tissue paper landscape.
· Learn about the art of Vincent van Gogh and create their own scratch board.
· Learn about the art of Paul Cezanne to create a still life painting.
· Learn about George Seurat to make a pointillism cup.

· Learn about symbols by creating a Mexican Milagro or Tin Work.
· Learn about repetition when creating a Mexican Mola.
· Learn about contrast by creating Mata Ortiz pots.
· Learn about line, and shape while creating a Pablo Picasso inspired painting.
· Learn about composition, color schemes, and Louise Nevelson to create a wooden sculpture.
