What we do in the art room?

Every student should be able to enjoy, appreciate and create art. We will look at and talk about major works/styles of art, as well as create our own masterpieces using the elements (line, shape, color, form, space, texture and value) and principles of design (balance, movement, pattern, contrast, unity, rhythm and emphasis).  We will study various artists, art styles and cultures from around the world. Where possible, we correlate art projects with the core school subject’s curriculum.
Ask your student about their projects when they bring them home. Good questions to ask would include: Why did you decide to use that color? What did you learn from this? What does this artwork mean to you?

 Art smocks

Art can get messy and every student must have an art smock to protect their clothes. This can be an oversized t-shirt or old shirt. It must be completely separate from students’ school clothes and it will stay in school for the year. If it is difficult to provide an art smock for your child, please send a note in and we will do our best to provide one for your child. Thank you for your support in this matter.

A few reminders…

Art to Remember fundraiser will be in October this year. Students make an artwork in art class and parents can order the artwork printed on bags, pillows, clocks, you name it. Watch for the artwork and order forms to come home sometime in November.

March is Youth Art Month- We will have an exhibit up at the Carroll County Arts Council. If your child’s artwork is chosen you will get a letter sent home.

If you have any questions or concerns the best way to contact Mrs. Groboski is through email: ljgrobo@carrollk12.org
