Liberty High School Wins First Place at State Thespian Festival

Members of the Liberty High School Thespian Society, the honors society for drama, won first place for their performance of J. Robert Wilkins’ play War Letters at the International Thespian Society Festival (Maryland Conference), held January 6-7, 2012, at Tuscarora High School in Ballenger Creek, Maryland. They will go on to represent Maryland in the national level competition.
The drama club also received awards for best lighting and sound, best ensemble work, best overall production, best transitions and pace, best vocal work, and best sets, as well as acting awards for Aly Julian and Kristen Luther. Individual students also competed at the state festival. Andrew Smith received a Superior rating for set design for A Christmas Carol, and Aly Julian received a Superior rating for acting.
Performances of War Letters will take place at Liberty High School on January 12, 13, and 14, 2012 at 7 p.m., with a matinee show on January 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the performance are $5 in advance or $7 at the door and are available through the LHS online box office at www.lhsdramaclub.com.
The Liberty High School Thespian Society members are the honors drama club students, led by drama teacher Tony Cimino. The drama club has won an impressive 25 awards in the past two years from the National Cappies High School Program, including best play for The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The group has also been nominated to represent the United States at the American High School Theatre Festival in Scotland.
