Parenting Matters: Raising Successful Children Conference

A conference entitled Parenting Matters: Raising Successful Children will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Carroll Community College. The conference is co-sponsored by the Maryland State Parental Information and Resource Center and Carroll Community College.
 
Workshop topics are listed below. Some workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish.
      
  • My Space and Beyond – Internet Safety for Parents
  • What to Do When Your Child is Sick
  • Understanding Your Teenager
  • Navigating the Public School System
  • Managing Behavior of Young & School Age Children
  • Learning Starts at Home
  • Introduction to Special Education
  • What Quality Childcare Looks Like
  • Helping Children with Their Homework
  • Growing a Reader
  • Fatherhood
  • Helping Children Handle Violence and Bullying.
 
There is no charge for the conference. Childcare for young children is available. Children ages 3-12 may participate in a children’s program focused on recycling entitled “Trash to Treasure.” Space in the program and limited. Children and adults must be pre-registered for the children’s program and the conference. A bag lunch will be provided. Staff members from Carroll County Public Schools are serving on the conference planning committee and will be attending the conference.
