Winters Mill Student Receives Award for Superior Writing

Catherine Fitzgerald, a junior at Winters Mill High School, received an Achievement Award for Superior Writing presented by The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
The National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing program recognizes excellence in writing by high school juniors. Winners demonstrate not only superior ability, but also notable versatility in writing. Students are required to submit a sample of their best writing written over time and to write an impromptu essay on a given subject during a supervised, seventy-five-minute period.
A total of 525 students were selected as outstanding writers in the 2008 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing. The recipients were selected from 1,789 students nominated by their teachers from the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, the Virgin Islands, and American schools abroad. Catherine Fitzgerald is one of sixteen Maryland students selected to receive an Achievement Award for Superior Writing.
