Hailey’s Wish Foundation to Receive $25,000 Grant for Inclusive Playground
Release Date: 10/7/2008 8:39:15 AM
The France-Merrick Foundation has approved a challenge grant in the amount of $25,000 to the Hailey’s Wish Foundation to support building an inclusive community playground at Carroll Springs School. Payment of the grant will be made when the Hailey’s Wish Foundation has raised $50,000 in new, private sector funds for this project to complete this challenge.
Hailey’s Wish, a Foundation for Inclusive Play, has partnered with Carroll Springs to build a brand new accessible and inclusive community playground at the school where students with and without disabilities can play together. The playground equipment at Carroll Springs will be accessible by ramps rather than steps, and high back swings will be included for those children who need more support in sitting up. Activity boards will be in reach of children in a standing or sitting position. In addition, there will be activities for children of all ages and abilities, including rock climbing walls and toddler play areas.
The Hailey’s Wish Foundation was started by the family of a Carroll Springs student to bring joy to the lives of children with disabilities by building, promoting, maintaining, and enhancing accessible and inclusive environments for children with disabilities.
Hailey’s Wish will sponsor a Longaberger Basket Bingo on Saturday, October 18, 2008, to raise funds for the playground. The event will be held at the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department Activities Building. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with concessions and vendor sales. Games begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. For tickets, e-mail email@example.com or call 410-377-5106.
