Release Date: 9/17/2008 8:51:31 AM
Students in Carroll County Public Schools will find fresh, local apples and pears from Baugher’s Orchards offered in their school cafeterias as part of Homegrown School Lunch Week, September 22-26, 2008.
This week-long awareness activity is part of the Jane Lawton Farm to School Program. The program is designed to bring more Maryland-grown products to school lunches and help educate students about where their food comes from, how it is produced, and the benefits of a healthy diet.
“This is an exciting new way for us to educate students about the benefits of locally grown food as a part of a healthy diet,” according to Eulalia Muschik, Supervisor of Food Services for Carroll County Public Schools.
