East Middle Students to Plant Pinwheels for Peace
Release Date: 9/16/2008 9:00:14 AM
East Middle School will be celebrating International Day of Peace (September 21) by supporting the national organization Pinwheels for Peace, started by two Florida art teachers. Students will be planting pinwheels on the school grounds on Monday, September 22, 2008.
This event links well to East Middle School’s character education and advisory program in recognizing that students respect the differences in others by supporting world peace. As part of this non-political project, students create pinwheels of all shapes and sizes. They write their thoughts about war and peace, tolerance, and living in harmony on one side of the pinwheel and draw, paint, or make a collage on the other side to visually express their feelings.
