Proposed Revisions to 2011-2012 School Calendar
Release Date: 5/12/2011 2:26:36 PM
On May 10, 2011 Governor Martin O’Malley signed legislation that changes the 2012 Primary Election Day from the second Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday in April. This change in a public school holiday will require the Board of Education to revise their approved school calendar for 2011-2012.
The Primary Election Day will change from Tuesday, February 14, to Tuesday, April 3, 2012. The proposed calendar makes this change and also adjusts the Spring Break and state-mandated Easter holiday to minimize disruption to the school schedule.
The Board of Education will vote on the proposed changes to next year’s calendar on May 25, 2011. If approved, the change in date for the Primary Election will result in the following revisions to the school calendar:
The Spring Holiday will be adjusted to April 2-9, 2012.
Schools will be closed for students on April 10, 2012 – Teachers work on end of marking period items and a professional development day.
Students will return from the Spring Holiday on April 11, 2012.
Four emergency closing days will be built into the calendar instead of five.
The last day of school will remain the same.
