Engel Receives Award for Distinguished Service

Kate Engel, principal of the Carroll County Career and Technology Center, has received the Distinguished Service Award – Secondary from the Maryland State Department of Education Division of Career and College Readiness. She was recognized for her efforts to ensure the availability of the highest quality programs to all students who attend the Career and Technology Center.
Engel has served as principal of the Career and Technology Center since 1992. She is known as an innovative and energetic problem solver and leader whose decisions are based on the best interests of students coupled with a model of continuous improvement. Knowing that career and technology education is for all students, Engel creates a learning environment that encourages students to channel their skills and interests into the exploration of a chosen career area while gaining 21st century skills for success.
Engel provides leadership that ensures both rigor and relevance in all programs through the development of relationships with the business and education communities. All programs at the Career and Technology Center provide added value beyond the high school diploma through certifications, Advanced Placement credit, or articulated or transcripted credits granted by colleges and universities.
