Students Win Awards at Junior Classical League State Convention

Latin students from Westminster and Winters Mill High Schools participated in the Maryland Junior Classical League State Convention, which took place on March 26, 2011, at Dulaney High School in Towson. During the convention, students competed in a variety of events including a Certamen trivia competition, athletics, art, and academic testing.
Summer Bowling from Winters Mill High School won 1st place on the Etymology Test and 3rd place on the Grammar Test.
The following students from Westminster High School won awards:
Ultimate Discus Competition
1st Place: Ty White, Victoria Shortt, James McCann, James Graybeal and Mark Charvat
3rd Place: Ty White, James McCann, James Graybeal and Mark Charvat
2-D Art
1st Place: Shannon Dalton
2nd Place: Josie Marcellino
Academic Prizes (based on standardized tests given that day):
Laura Deyerberg - 1st place in Latin grammar and 2nd place in the Pentathlon for Latin III
James McCann - 2nd place in Roman history for Latin III
James Graybeal - 3rd place in Roman history for Latin II
Victoria Shortt - 3rd place in Latin grammar for Latin II
Westminster High School also fielded three Certamen teams:
Latin I - Braden Moshang, Shannon Dalton, Ty White, Billy Railey
Latin II - James Graybeal and Jesse Peed
Latin III - Laura Deyerberg and James McCann.
