Nominations for 2011 Special Education Recognition and Appreciation Awards

Release Date: 1/26/2011 9:31:20 AM

The Carroll County Public School System’s Special Education Citizen’s Advisory Committee (SECAC) is currently accepting nominations for its annual recognition and appreciation awards. These awards honor teachers, speech pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other service providers, as well as administrators, family members, community members, and students, who have truly gone to extraordinary efforts to contribute in a compassionate and caring way to the growth, happiness, and general well-being of children.

Students, parents, or guardians may nominate an individual or group, but there can only be one nomination per family. Staff may nominate outside agencies or personnel who have worked on behalf of children with disabilities. This nomination is not meant to take the place of the Teacher of the Year Award. Staff who would like to acknowledge other staff members for extraordinary accomplishments on behalf of students may submit their names. Staff will be recognized during the ceremony.

When nominating a person or group, please describe a specific action, approach, or attitude that contributed to your child’s progress and success. While nominations may need to be edited for purposes of the awards ceremony, all nominees will receive a complete copy of the original version. If nominating a group, the names of all members of the group should be provided.

Nomination forms may be emailed to SECAC@carrollk12.org or sent by mail to SECAC, 125 North Court Street, Westminster, MD 21157. Please click here for an electronic version of the form.

For additional information, please contact the Office of Special Education at 410-751-3033 or SECAC@carrollk12.org. The deadline for nominations has been extended to Monday, February 28. Applications will not be accepted after the deadline.

The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 7:00 p.m. at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center.
