Release Date: 12/9/2010 10:28:34 AM
Student dancers from Francis Scott Key and Winters Mill High Schools have been selected to perform during the evening concert at the Maryland High School Dance Showcase. The event will take place on Friday, January 7, 2011, at Goucher College.
Francis Scott Key and Winters Mill High Schools were 2 of 34 Maryland schools that submitted 1 or 2 pieces to be adjudicated and then selected from the field of high school submissions. Eighteen pieces were selected for performance at the formal evening concert. This is the first time that two Carroll County schools have been chosen in the 22 years of this annual event. Dancers from Winters Mill participated in the 2010 evening concert.
Francis Scott Key High School will be performing Scattered Pieces, choreographed by Kim Golliday and arranged by Jordan Gosselin, Conner Rhoten, and Kayla Wintsch. The dancers are Leslie Cruz, Jordan Gosselin, Rachel Petrie, Conner Rhoten, and Kayla Wintsch. Shellie Rosso is the dance teacher at Francis Scott Key.
Winters Mill High School will be performing élan (meaning passion for life), a contemporary dance choreographed by dance teacher Melanie Burrier. The song Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney will be the accompaniment to the dance, which will be performed by Francesca DiPaula, Kaitlynn Ecker, Jackie Guercio, Hayley Joy, Krista Mohlhenrich, and Kaitlyn Shimek.
The Maryland High School Dance Showcase highlights the status of dance instruction in public schools and exposes students to dance programs and educators throughout the state. It also provides high quality master classes to broaden student experience and fosters quality performance in dance as a fine art. Professional adjudicators are provided to select All-State Dancers and the Showcase Award for Professionalism and Performance.
