New Teachers Get Early Start to School Year

Approximately 135 teachers who are new to the Carroll County Public School System will begin New Teacher Orientation Week on Friday, August 8, 2008, at Winters Mill High School.
Registration and a continental breakfast will be held from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. A Welcome and Introduction will take place from 8:00 to 8:20 a.m. in the auditorium. Board member Patricia Gadberry, Superintendent Charles Ecker, and other school system leaders will greet the new teachers. The Department of Human Resources will conduct workshops throughout the day on the following topics: Certification, Employee Assistance Program/Health Issues in the Classroom/ Employee Policy Review, Benefits, Staff-Student Relationships/Child Abuse Reporting Requirements, Payroll Information/SubFinder System/New Teacher Survey, and Overview of Induction Program/Novell Log-in.
During the week of August 11, new teachers will have the opportunity to work on curriculum with subject area supervisors. They also will be able to meet with their building administrators and peer mentors at their home schools. Click here for the schedule for the week.
