A team of students from Winters Mill High School was awarded a “Silver Team” placing in the Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event at the 83rd National FFA Convention, which was held in Indianapolis from October 20-23, 2010.
Team members were Andrew Rawlings, A.J. Baginski, and Shelby Stevens. During the event, competitors were asked to evaluate production, processing, and merchandising phases of the poultry industry, as well as identify various industry components. Participants evaluated live birds, presented oral reasons, and placed a class of ready-to-cook broilers.
The Winters Mill team also placed first at the county level with A.J. Baginski receiving a trophy for first place, top individual. The team also placed first in the state competition, which was held in September at the Maryland State Fair. The students held fundraisers to fund the trip to Indianapolis in October. Several local sponsors made the trip possible. The Chapter is grateful to Lippy’s Sunrise Farms, Carroll County Farm Bureau, and the Winters Mill Athletic Boosters for their support.
