Manchester Elementary Students Create Pinwheels for Peace
Release Date: 9/8/2010 10:56:29 AM
Students and staff at Manchester Elementary School are participating in a school-wide project called “Pinwheels for Peace.” In an effort to kick off a multicultural emphasis, students are creating their own individual and unique pinwheel. Students will go outside with their pinwheels on Friday, September 10, at 8:45 a.m. Fifth grade students will briefly explain the value of diversity. All of the students will then shout “peace” and stick their pinwheels in the outside gardens. Some of the pinwheels may also be placed on student lockers.
Students have been learning about peace by reading stories and discussing its meaning. Their teachers are connecting peace to being responsible, respectful, safe, and prepared in our lives. Students are learning that peace is not only about fighting, but rather ways that individuals keep themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually fulfilled.
