Francis Scott Key FFA Team Wins Livestock Evaluation Event

The Francis Scott Key High School FFA won the Maryland FFA's Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event held at the Howard County Fair. Team members are Samantha Anthony, Lukas Ziegler, Clark Anthony, and Phyllis McKenzie. Individually, Samantha Anthony and Lukas Ziegler earned gold medals by placing 2nd and 4th, respectively, and Clark Anthony earned silver at 11th place. The competition consisted of evaluating six classes of animals dealing with beef, swine, sheep, and goats and presenting oral reasons on a class of beef.
Each participant completed a written exam dealing with the livestock industry while they worked as a team to complete activities with grading and keep/cull selection of animals. By winning the competition, Francis Scott Key will represent Maryland at the National FFA Career Development Event in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Competition in the area of Dairy Handlers was held in conjunction during the day at the fair. Two members of the Francis Scott Key FFA competed in the event in which they led dairy animals during a judging exhibition. Amanda Smith placed 4th earning a gold medal, while John Loy placed 10th earning a bronze medal.
