Do you want to prepare our future work force?
Do you want to have an impact on our youth and the economic development of Carroll County?
Do you want to strengthen and promote your business’s involvement in education?
Make that difference by hosting a high school student for Job Shadow Day – October 29, 2010!
Job Shadow Day is an opportunity for businesses in the community to give Carroll County high school students a realistic look at a career that they are considering as their life’s work. Sponsored by the Business and Employment Resource Center, Job Shadow Day invites students to “shadow” workplace mentors as they go through a normal workday to see firsthand how the skills learned in school relate to the workplace.
This year, Job Shadow Day will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010. The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Carroll Community College with a continental breakfast for students and mentors, followed by a keynote speaker. Afterwards students and mentors will report to their job site for their shadow experience, which will last until either 1:00 or 2:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per person.
Students will be matched with their mentors by Carroll County Public Schools High School Career Coordinators based on the intended career path of the students and the description of work provided by the business.
This event is open to all businesses, except those that are home-based. If you are interested in applying, or would like to learn more about Job Shadow Day, please visit the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce website at http://www.carrollcountychamber.org/2010JobShadow.htm or contact Valerie Bortz, Coordinator of Career Development for Carroll County Public Schools at firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-751-3131.
