Former NASA Astronaut to Visit Parr’s Ridge Elementary School

Former NASA astronaut Dr. Donald Thomas will visit second grade students at Parr’s Ridge Elementary School on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, from 2 to 3 p.m. Dr. Thomas will give a presentation and answer questions from students about his experiences as an astronaut.
Thomas became an astronaut in 1991 and served in the Safety, Operations Development, and Payloads Branches of the Astronaut Office. He is a veteran of four space flights and logged over 1,040 hours in space. He served as a spacecraft communicator and mission specialist on board Space Shuttle missions. He also was Director of Operations for NASA at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia, and served as the International Space Station Program Scientist overseeing NASA experiments performed on the International Space Station. 
Thomas currently works through Towson University’s Hackerman Academy on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiatives.
