Runnymede Elementary Walk-a-Thon to Benefit Carroll County Food Sunday
Release Date: 4/13/2010 2:25:10 PM
Runnymede Elementary School will hold its 12th annual walkathon for Carroll County Food Sunday on Friday, April 23, 2010, on the school grounds.
Over the past 11 years, the walk-a-thon has raised more than $87,000 for Carroll County Food Sunday. The goal for this year’s walk-a-thon is to raise the more than $12,000 needed to reach a total of $100,000. If the goal is met, physical education teachers Susan Routson and John Code have pledged that they will kiss a cow at the end of the school year.
Each grade will walk for one hour to benefit Food Sunday’s mission of feeding hungry families in Carroll County. There will be displays, music to walk by, and other activities during the day. The class that raises the most money in each group will win a prize.
Each year Runnymede students design a tee shirt for the walk, with faculty and staff members selecting the winning design. The shirts are then made for all students to wear on the day of the walk and during the school year.
In addition to the walk-a-thon, the Chick-fil-a on Route 140 in Westminster will sponsor a Runnymede for CCFS Night on Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Carroll County Food Sunday and will go towards meeting the goal.
