Laura Graf, a parent and volunteer at New Windsor Middle School, has been named a semifinalist for the 2010 Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Awards.
This awards program, sponsored by Comcast and the Maryland State Department of Education, recognizes parents and legal guardians for their exceptional support of public education. Parents are nominated for demonstrating significant, positive impact in their education communities in one or more of the five areas of parental involvement – Communication, Volunteering, Learning, Decision Making, and Community Collaboration.
For the past three years, Graf has willingly served as a school-based coordinator and trainer for the Carroll County Public Schools Volunteer Program at New Windsor Middle School. In addition to her work as volunteer coordinator, she has organized a list of volunteers at New Windsor who have various skills that they share with the school community. She also has volunteered her own time to help teachers, assemble the school newsletter, recruit chaperones for field trips, and organize after-school dances for the students. Graf has a daughter attending New Windsor Middle School and a son at South Carroll High School.
The 2010 Comcast Parent Involvement Matters Awards will be presented at a special celebration on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Loch Raven High School in Towson. Five finalists and a statewide winner will be selected from the 24 semifinalists.
