East Middle Student Wins Americanism Essay Contest

Sohum Kaushal, an eighth grade Honor Roll student at East Middle School, was the first place winner for the State of Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia Americanism Essay Contest. The contest was sponsored by the BPO Elks USA. The theme of the contest was The American Dream: What Is It?.   
Kaushal’s essay was picked as the top essay and was sent on to the national competition where it will be judged against the rest of the state qualifiers. He will receive a $100 savings bond from the Westminster Elks and received a prize pack including gift cards for up to $100 for his essay.
The national contest winners will be announced at the Grand Lodge Session to be held July 4-8, 2010, in Orlando, Florida. The first, second, and third place national winners will receive U.S. Patriot Savings Bonds in the amount $1,000, $500, and $250, respectively.
