Runnymede to Kick Off Walk-a-thon for Carroll County Food Sunday
Release Date: 3/17/2010 11:26:46 AM
Runnymede Elementary School will hold a kick-off assembly for its annual walk-a-thon on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. Over the past 11 years, the walk-a-thon has raised a total of $87,481.63 for Carroll County Food Sunday.
The assembly will include a 2-minute video about Carroll County Food Sunday and a slide show with photos featuring aspects of the Food Bank’s work and photos from the 2009 annual walk. In addition, Edward Leister, Vice Chair of Carroll County Food Sunday, will present an updated plaque to the school showing the amount of funds raised since the first walk in 1998. Charles Ecker, Superintendent of Schools, will be attending the assembly.
Each year Runnymede students design a tee shirt for the walk, with faculty and staff members selecting the winning design. The shirts are then made for all students to wear on the day of the walk and during the school year.
This year’s walk will take place on Friday, April 23, on the school grounds. Each grade will walk for one hour to benefit Food Sunday’s mission of feeding hungry families in Carroll County. There will be displays, music to walk by, and other activities during the day. The class that raises the most money in each group will win a prize. Students will receive their pledge envelopes at the kick-off assembly.
