Release Date: 12/2/2009 3:48:34 PM
Student dancers from Winters Mill High School have been selected to perform at the formal evening event of the Maryland High School Dance Showcase. The performance will take place on Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Kraushaar Auditorium at Goucher College.
Winters Mill High School was one of 13 Maryland schools that were adjudicated and then selected from a field of 36 high schools to perform in the formal evening concert. This is the first time a Carroll County school has been chosen in the 21 years of this annual event.
The student dancers are Danielle Bowers, Francesca DiPaula, Hayley Joy, Krista Mohlhenrich, Amanda Pope, and Natalie Zink. The students will perform a piece entitled Inspired. According to dance instructor Melanie Burrier, “Inspired began as a student work that was created to honor the memory of loved ones lost. It has evolved into a collaborative piece that represents the hope of the future.”
The Maryland High School Dance Showcase highlights the status of dance instruction in public schools and exposes students to dance programs and educators throughout the state. It also provides high quality master classes to broaden student experience and fosters quality performance in dance as a fine art. Professional adjudicators are provided to select All-State Dancers and the Showcase Award for Professionalism and Performance.
