Artwork by Mary Murdock, a fifth grade student at Eldersburg Elementary School, was selected by the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) to be featured in the 2009-2010 Economic Concepts Calendar.
MCEE, in cooperation with the Baltimore Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Maryland and Delaware, and Towson University College of Business and Economics, held a poster contest as a way for teachers to help students have fun with economics while reviewing economic concepts and principles. Students were asked to illustrate one of the following economic concepts: scarcity, productive resources, producers and consumers, opportunity cost, goods and services, and specialization and interdependence. The sixteen winners each received a $50 savings bond and had their work featured in the calendar.
Murdock’s drawing highlights the concept of “Goods and Services” and appears on the calendar for August 2010.
