Two Carroll Students Recognized for Service-Learning Achievements

Jeffrey Giles, a senior at Westminster High School, and Jennifer Staub, a senior at Liberty High School, have been recognized as Maryland Student Service Stars for 2009. This recognition program is sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education and is designed to recognize students for extraordinary contributions to their communities through service-learning and for their service and leadership in promoting service among their peers.
Jeffrey and Jennifer were nominated by their high schools for their service to their schools and community. Both students are involved in school and county student government. Jeffrey has volunteered at Shepherd's Staff, SERVV International, and the volunteer fire department. Jennifer has presented leadership workshops at the local, state, and national levels and has served as the President of the Liberty High School Student Government Association.
Jeffrey and Jennifer were among 50 students from around the state to be recognized at an awards ceremony on Tuesday May 12, 2009, at Turf Valley Country Club.
