The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (www.maeoe.org) is the sponsoring organization of the “Maryland Green Schools and Maryland Green Centers” awards program. The purpose of the program is to recognize Maryland schools and environmental centers that have embraced comprehensive environmental education and action in the classroom, and in the operation of the facility and in the community.

The MAEOE program is criteria based and is highly competitive, but against a standard not against other schools. It is tied directly to education and recognizes the need to address student academic achievement along with environmental concerns. It seeks the implementation of the most effective environmental practices in the operation of the facility and requires the positive exchange between the school and the community.

The schools will be recognized at an awards ceremony and celebration on June 1, 2009.
