Special Education Citizen’s Advisory Council Holds First Annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony
Release Date: 4/17/2009 8:54:40 AM
The Carroll County Public School System’s Special Education Citizen’s Advisory Council (SECAC) held its first annual awards and recognition ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
Earlier in the year, SECAC sought nominations for teachers, speech pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, other service providers, administrators, family members, community members, and students who have truly gone to extraordinary efforts to contribute in a compassionate and caring way to the growth, happiness, and general well-being of children. Twenty-four nominations were received with thirty-seven recipients, some being part of a team.
During the ceremony, each nomination was read aloud and each recipient was welcomed by Lee Murphy, Section Chief, Special Education Administration and Quality Assurance Branch of the Maryland State Department of Education. Each recipient was presented with a personalized custom award and a copy of their nomination letter. Some of the children who were mentioned in the nominations attended the ceremony and escorted their recipient up to the front to receive their awards.
