The Liberty High School Robotics Team, the “ROBO-LIONS”, will participate in the Chesapeake Regional Competition to be held March 19-21, 2009, at Halsey Field House at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Students will engage in robotics competition against 54 other teams from around the world.
The competition is free and open to the public. Saturday, March 21, is the most exciting day, with qualifying rounds and the final matches. Parking and shuttle service will be available from the stadium. This year’s competition commemorates the 40th anniversary of men landing on the moon.
The “ROBO-LIONS” are currently ranked in the top tier of teams in the nation based on their outstanding performance at the DC Regional last month. This will be the team’s second and last competition and a chance at a berth at the championship to be held in Atlanta in April.
The competition is sponsored by FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). This non-profit international organization encourages young people to explore careers in engineering and offers scholarships, access to leading corporations, and experience in real-world design and development.
