Academy of Finance Students Need Internships
Release Date: 3/5/2009 2:21:39 PM
The Carroll County Public Schools Academy of Finance is seeking businesses to sponsor summer internships for students.
The Academy of Finance (AOF) is a county-wide program for high school students who are interested in a career in the financial services industry. The program is affiliated with the National Academy Foundation. AOF students complete college-level accounting at their home high schools, two courses regionally taught at Westminster High School, a class at Carroll Community College, and a paid internship. The current AOF class has eighteen students from all seven county high schools.
Most internships are completed in the summer between the junior and senior years. The interns do very well at their jobs and learn many lessons that are impossible to teach in the classroom. The program has proven to be valuable for both the students and the businesses that hire them.
Businesses that will be hiring summer help in the finance field and would like to consider hiring an AOF student may contact Jean Redmond at 410-751-3630 or firstname.lastname@example.org. There is a fund to compensate students who are placed with non-profit organizations that cannot pay interns. Donations to this fund are tax deductible.
