This is the second year for the Carroll County Debate League. The purpose of this organization is to provide debate experience in a competitive atmosphere in which a student may test his or her training and skills in analyzing issues, researching evidence, and preparing and presenting persuasive arguments.
Debate teams from high schools throughout Carroll County competed in four preliminary tournaments to qualify for this final tournament. During four preliminary tournaments, students debated nuclear energy, universal health care, social networking websites, and alternative fuels. Forty-six teams from the high schools have participated in eighty-one rounds with forty parents and teachers evaluating their efforts.
Everyone is welcome to attend the tournament and watch a debate. Interested persons with speech or debate experience who would like to judge a few rounds are welcome to participate. Please contact Mr. Stanley Day, coordinator of judges for this tournament, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
