FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit international organization created to get students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math through creating and hosting robotics competitions every year. At the high school level, the FIRST Robotics Competition involves robots that are more than five feet high, with teams of three against three other teams on a large playing field.
The Liberty High School Robotics Team originated in 2007. In addition to building robots, students use CAD programming and LabView, maintain a dynamic team website, interact with other teams, reach out to the community, and have a sound business plan. The first competition of the year will begin on February 26 in Washington, D.C., where 60 teams from around the world will compete for the top spots and a chance to compete at the Championship to be held in Atlanta in April.
