Board Seeks Input on Revisions to School Calendar Policy
Release Date: 1/15/2009 3:09:52 PM
The Board of Education of Carroll County is seeking public comment on proposed revisions to the School Calendar policy. The Board is considering the addition of Section III.F – School Closings, which states:
Carroll County Public Schools may close on days coinciding with religious holidays based upon two criteria:
- The religious holiday falls on a mandated Maryland public school holiday; or,
- Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board determines that it has legitimate secular reasons for closing schools based upon demonstrated or projected student/staff absences that may adversely impact student learning. If the Board closes a school on a day coinciding with a religious holiday, it may, but need not, close more schools or all of the Carroll County Public Schools and offices on that day.
The full policy is posted on the CCPS website at www.carrollk12.org under “Resources.” Comments may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. This item will be returned to the Board for action at its meeting on Wednesday, February 11, at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in Room 007 of the Board of Education offices, located at 125 North Court Street in Westminster.
