Release Date: 12/8/2008 11:40:14 AM
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the twenty-first annual Outstanding Teacher Awards. The deadline for nominations is February 2, 2009.
The Outstanding Teacher Awards recognize the men and women who teach in the Carroll County Public School System. Any full-time elementary, middle, high school, career and technology, special education teacher, counselor, or media specialist in the Carroll County Public School System is eligible for nomination. Any parent, student, fellow teacher, or school administrator may submit a nomination.
Forms must be received (not just postmarked) by Monday, February 2, before 5:00 p.m. at the Chamber office at 700 Corporate Center Court, Suite L, P.O. Box 871, Westminster, MD 21158. Nominations received after 5:00 p.m. on this date will not be considered. Please do not mail or deliver nomination forms to Carroll County Public Schools.
Nominators are urged to think of teachers who have made a difference in their life or a student’s life. The nomination form includes three questions requiring specific examples of ways the teacher inspires students to learn, build confidence and self-esteem, and apply what they have learned to real-world situations.
All eligible nominees will be recognized at the Outstanding Teacher Reception and Award Program on April 1, 2009. Eight award recipients will be named at the reception. These teachers will form the group from which the Carroll County Teacher of the Year will be chosen. That candidate will be Carroll County’s representative for the Maryland Teacher of the Year program.
The Outstanding Teacher Awards are sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Carroll County Public Schools, Tevis Oil/Modern Comfort, Comcast Cable, The Boston Inn, Carroll Community College, Carroll County Education Association, Lehigh Cement Company, M&T Bank, Reznick Group, Carroll County Times, Random House, Westminster Ridge Retirement Community, and PNC Bank.
