Carroll Teacher Receives Distinguished Educator of Blind Children Award

Jacqueline Otwell, a teacher of the visually impaired for Carroll County Public Schools, has received the Distinguished Educator of Blind Children Award from the National Federation of the Blind of Maryland.
Otwell was selected for this recognition for her skill in teaching Braille and other related subjects and for her dedication to her students. She was nominated for this prestigious award by several parents of her students. According to Michael Gosse, President of the National Federation of the Blind of Maryland, “The selection committee was especially impressed with Mrs. Otwell’s willingness to devote extra time to meet the needs of her students and her participation in special summer programs conducted by the National Federation of the Blind.”
The award will be presented at the organization’s state convention, which will be held from November 14-16, 2008. During the convention, Otwell will address the Parents of Blind Children Division during their annual luncheon and receive a plaque.
