School System Reviews Operating Budget to Reduce Costs
Release Date: 10/31/2008 1:11:29 PMThe Carroll County Public School System announced today that it will begin reviewing its operating budget to determine where costs can be reduced.
According to Superintendent of Schools Charles Ecker, “We are all facing difficult economic times, and as a school system we must do our part.”
According to Ecker, the school system will be looking at the entire budget for reduction, including:
(1) Staffing - All new vacancies will be reviewed for system impact if unfilled.
(2) Staff Vehicles - Reduction in the number of commuter miles driven with school system owned vehicles.
(3) Travel - A reduction in out-of-county travel for professional development.
According to Ecker, “We will reduce the budget wherever we can. However, our number one responsibility is the education of our students. We must make sure instruction is not negatively impacted.”
